If you ever lost weight and put it back on, you know that weight loss isn’t just about going on a diet. You truly have to want to change two things. First you have to change your mind (what you tell yourself about yourself and your relationship with food) and then you have to transform your lifestyle from destructive to nurturing. This takes faith and courage.
There are essentially four main keys to success on any healing journey, including weight loss:
- Believe that it is possible
- Connect to your body
- Allow the Universe to meet you half way
- Keep releasing negative beliefs
Believe That It Is Possible
The separate self wants to keep you in your comfort zone, where you have to do as little as possible to stay ‘safe.’ It uses excuses to accomplish its agenda and gives a zillion reasons why you can’t do what others have proven possible.
The easy way out is to hand your health and healing journey over to those in authority, such as medical professionals or weight loss gurus. Then, if things don’t go to plan, you can either blame them or say, ‘Well, I tried.’
However, their power is not greater than yours. You are human and therefore you have what it takes to heal. Of course, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t use the the medical info available or avoid taking sound advice on board.
All I’m saying is that those who succeed in not only losing the weight but in keeping it off are those who believe in their own power and ability to stay on track.
And sometimes you just have to get pissed off enough to say ‘Enough!’ to the excuses. Choose the power of believing in yourself. Become your own number one cheerleader.
Connect To Your Body
Most of us are so disconnected to what our bodies need. It’s easy for this disconnect to happen when we have more screen time with strangers on social media than one-to-one time with the people in our lives. Another reason it is easy for this to happen is because we do not spend nearly enough time in Nature.
Most of us also don’t take nearly enough exercise or simply move about enough. Our ancestors were constantly moving and the human body is very poorly adapted to a sedentary lifestyle.
The good news is that if you adopt just one health-promoting habit today, you are likely to start hearing the signals of your body more clearly. It’s as if a channel begins to open up.
As an example, I can tell you that when I dropped all wheat, sugar and processed food from my diet, I began to acutely ‘hear’ what else my body needed. The more I listened and acted on the body’s guidance, the more it spoke and even sang to me.
One great way to connect with your body is to simply do a daily body scan as part of your meditation practice. You would typically do this with your eyes closed and start from the feet up, pausing to send light to any part that is achy or tense and asking it what it needs. You might be surprised with what answers come this way!
Allow the Universe to Meet You Half Way
Here’s the thing – One of the main reasons you turned to food for comfort is that you haven’t felt certain that the Universe has your back, am I right?
The remedy for this addiction to food as a comforter is to look to Holy Spirit (literally ‘The Comforter) or whatever name you know Source Energy by to fill you instead.
But he answered and said, it is written, Man shall not live by bread alone …Matthew 4:4
Be disciplined about your spiritual practice or start one if you haven’t already.
Do this first thing in the morning, without fail: pray and meditate
You will never regret setting yourself up right, right at the start of the day.
You are not alone and the more you have faith in Spirit to guide, comfort and assist you on your healing journey, the better you will become able in discerning this guidance and assistance, which may arrive via signs and synchronicity, as well as via miracles.
Use your breath to consciously draw on the healing energy of the Universe. This is also something you should do on a daily basis, as part of your meditation practice. You can use your hands as well, simply placing them on the parts of your body that need it and using the breath to channel healing light into those parts.
Keep Releasing Negative Beliefs
Here’s another thing to be mindful of: we are human, so it is not likely that we ‘arrive’ in this lifetime and never ever again entertain a negative thought or self-belief.
The trick is to learn to become the observer and to release the negative thought as soon as it arises. That way, if you fall off the wagon with your new healthy way of eating, you don’t get stuck in a negative, downward spiral where you binge for a whole week just because you had a biscuit with your afternoon cuppa.
Again, this comes down to being disciplined with your daily meditation practice, which is the only way to develop a vigilant mind, a mind that continues to open up to ever higher levels of consciousness and won’t allow the separate self little victories and exercises in destruction.
In addition to meditation, the other practice that totally helped me release negative, self-limiting beliefs was intermittent fasting. It’s not a coincidence that intermittent fasting is part of all major spiritual and religious paths! Intermittent fasting required me to develop discipline, without being overly complicated. It doesn’t take many weeks of sticking to an intermittent fasting schedule before you realise that food is no longer in control of your life – you are.
This had such a great knock-on effect for me mentally, and made it much easier to slam the door shut on other forms of negativity, whether they arose from within or came at me from an outside source.
